'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated items including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She said Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.

She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
